2008 ALMA Awards Recipients
NALIP is very pleased to announce that American Experience: Roberto Clemente, written directed and produced by NALIP Board Member Bernardo Ruiz is the winner of the 2008 NCLR ALMA Award® for Outstanding Made-for-Television Documentary. “All of tonight’s nominees are members or have been active with the National Association of Latino Independent Producers,” Ruiz announced via a written statement, “and I would very much like to recognize NALIP for its continued support and development of Latino filmmakers.”
America Ferrera was hailed as Chevy Entertainer of the Year for her role in "Ugly Betty" at the 2008 ALMA Awards, which were taped Sunday night at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The annual ALMA Awards recognize outstanding artistic achievement of Latinos in film, television, and music.
The two-hour program, presented by the National Council of La Raza, which will air Sept. 12 on ABC, also honored Linda Rondstadt with a Trailblazer Award for her contributions to music. Singer-songwriter Shakira was presented with a Humanitarian Award for her work in early childhood education.
A Special achievement award for outstanding director of a made-for-TV movie went to Kenny Ortega for "High School Musical 2," while the special achievement in fashion honors went to designer Narciso Rodriguez.

Reality Series Produced by NALIPster Director/Writer Team Ernesto Quintero and Diana M. Perez Premieres
Ernesto Quintero (Higher Ground Entertainment), director/executive producer and Dianna M. Perez, writer of The Mun2 Hook Up first met in 1999 at the first NALIP conference in San Francisco, CA. The two shared a vision of producing projects that inspired and create social change. “The Mun2 Hook Up”, which helps young people get ‘hooked up” with top professionals fits perfectly with this vision Higher Ground was contracted to produce the 13 episode mun2 created series with Quintero attached as director/executive producer and Perez slated as the writer/co-producer.
This fresh, new Mun2 series hooks up young, ambitious Latinos by introducing them to successful Latino professionals in their industry of choice. With the guidance of experts raging from celebrities like Sabrina Bryan and athletes like Tony Gonzalez, to musicians like Beto Cuevas and Frankie J and influential leaders in their fields like Dr. Alfredo Quinones the former farm worker turned brain surgeon of John Hopkins, these young apprentices explore and get a new appreciation for their dream job. Once paired up, their Latino role models provide them with invaluable, real-life advice. Their skills are put to the test as they get a reality check on what it really takes to succeed in their field of interest. For some it’s a wake up call. For others it’s the experience of a lifetime. Ford Amphitheatre Partnership Program Application Workshop
On Wednesday, August 20 at 7 p.m. at the Ford Theatres in Hollywood, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission will host application workshops for the 2009 Ford Amphitheatre Summer Partnership Program. The Ford Amphitheatre summer season is a multi-disciplinary performance series running from May through October. Performances take place at the 1,245-seat John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, a Los Angeles County regional park facility. The Arts Commission provides significant presentation & marketing support to participating arts organizations which, in turn, provide the residents of Los Angeles County with a rich cultural sampling of performing arts of the region.
All interested organizations are encouraged to attend a workshop to find out more about the program and the application process.
