In the Spotlight this weekend is the 12th annual AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL. Hailed as
the screenwriter's film festival and the world's top screenwriting conference,
this high-profile event focuses on the writer's unique creative contribution to
film, television and new media.
Since Austin is Academy-accredited, all award-winning short films get a big push
toward Academy Award nomination -- and feature submitters should be excited to
know that in the past 7 years, all feature Audience Award winners have received
distribution as a result of their screenings.
Austin has a long-standing reputation for unique access to industry
professionals in a casual setting. On any given night, first-time filmmakers can
be found rubbing shoulders with seasoned vets at the historic Driskill Hotel
Bar. Take accomplished screenwriter David McKenna (Blow, American History X),
who described the event as a showcase where, "...the creators are the stars. And
rightly so. So if you want to write, direct, or produce motion pictures and get
paid for it, attend this festival."
Late deadline is just a couple weeks out. Submit right now or set a Watch List
reminder. Read on for details...

for Saturday, July 16. In this session, learn about investment opportunities
with independent films. We will also focus on the tax, legal, business and

Truth Energency .us
Help Defeat Lethal Deceit
Expose the Seamless Lies of 9/11,
Endless War and Veteran Fraud
WHAT
A historic convergence of truth groups, whistle-blowers, indie media and the
foreign press to expose and counter the government's most lethal lies and
mainstream media complicity. The event series includes informal congressional
hearings, National Press Club presentations, a Lafayette Park 911/war deceit
rally, and a strategy summit among truth movement leaders, independent media
activists and international journalists.
WHY
1) Too many thousands have died and are dying from media abetment of
administration deceit.
2) Too much evidence exists refuting the "official stories" on critical turns in
recent history.
3) Too many instances of unchallenged treachery tempt corrupt officials and lead
to worse crimes.
4) Too much power is now arising in independent media to excuse or endure this
blackout anymore.
5) Activists working on 9/11, war, repression or media reform could all be far
more effective if we collectively outed and disabled the government's most
powerful lies.
HOW
By awakening independent & foreign journalists (and overwhelming mainstream
gatekeepers) with a perfect storm of DC truth events aimed at Congress, the
courts, and the public abroad (including new 911/war lie hearings, creative new
law suits, and dramatic new global appeals).

Films needed
We're looking for independent shorts, animations, documentaries, and features
for a new film series starting up at the Nueva Onda restaurant on Austin's hip

generous 8' x 5' custom-built canvas. Nueva Onda has consistently won awards for
best migas in town. :)
We'd love to consider your work. No problem if it's been shown elsewhere, is a
little older, or has already made the festival circuit.
We're getting listed in the local papers, and one of the members of our little
team works at the Alamo Drafthouse theater and who knows, may be arrange some
synergies. We're also offering a variety of prizes to the makers of the best
films of the series, selected by audience and screening committee ratings. True,
some of the prizes are only good if you visit Austin... but we're also offering
a spiderbrace (spiderbrace.com) and filmmaking services.
Films should be on DVD or miniDV. VHS is ok if that's all you have. No entry
fee. Please email to submit or with any questions, info AT sparkleworks DOT com.
Entries should be mailed or delivered to 4511 Speedway, Austin, TX 78751 or to
the restaurant (2218 College, Austin, TX 78704) along with a page for
Each film with the following info:
- film title
- running time
- summary
- your name, phone and email
- any awards or screenings that the film has garnered in the past
- a good still or movie poster image from the film in digital format (optional;
web link is fine)
- press coverage of the film, if any. We understand this is the exception not
the norm.
If you want your work returned, please include a self-addressed stamped
envelope, or we can leave it at the restaurant for you to pick up.
Packaging and disk labelling are irrelevant, so if you want to drop a disposable
burn with us, that's fine too; just make sure to mark it as such. Good luck...!
