SATURDAY, JULY 26
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Attack on Moncada Barracks
July 26th of this year will mark the fiftieth anniversary of an event
that sparked the Cuban revolution - the Attack on Moncada Barracks. It
will be an important event to commemorate under any circumstances but
at this time when Cuba is fighting against political slanders and
military threats. it is more important than ever to stand in defense
of the revolution that has inspired millions throughout the world.
On July 26, 1953, a small group of courageous young revolutionaries,
led by Fidel Castro, attacked the Moncada Barracks in the city of
Santiago de Cuba. The young fighters - men and women, Black and white
- were motivated to struggle and sacrifice their lives by a profound
desire to liberate their people from a U.S.-backed clique of gangsters
and torturers.
Plantation lords who ruled through a military dictatorship led by
Fulgencio Batista, had abrogated the democratic 1940 Constitution.
Many of the freedom fighters lost their lives in gun battle at the
Moncada Barracks. Young Fidel Castro was among the captured
revolutionaries. At his trial is where Fidel Castro stated his famous
words of defiance, "History will absolve me."
Cuba is a sovereign nation and its solemn right to self determination
must be respected. This year on July 26, in New York City, we will
join many throughout the world who will celebrate by demanding an end
to the vicious U.S. war mode throughout the world including its
provocations against Cuba.
We will celebrate by also demanding the release of Gerardo Hernandez,
Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez
- five Cuban political prisoners. The five Cuban patriots are held in
U.S. prison for uncovering a terrorist plot of U.S.-backed criminal
elements in Miami, Florida who aim to destroy Cuba.
The hatred the Miami terrorists groups have for Cuba is based on the
fact that, thanks to the Cuban Revolution, they are no longer able to
rule and oppress the people there, in the service of the U.S.
