Dear Colleagues,

GIPRI, the Colombian rock art investigative group has received the notice of the FREE distribution of the Rupestre (Rock Art in Colombia) 1,2,3 magazine-bulletin with absolute indignation!! Relative to this notice, the working group of GIPRI would like you to consider the following aspects of the matter.
--In the first place none of the GIPRI members or its director has authorized Diego Martinez Celis, or the list serv of Rupestreweb that he coordinates, to divulge completely or partially the GIPRI publications (Modelo Metodologico, Rupestre 1,2,3, etc.).
--That it is true that Diego Martinez worked as a GIPRI member only on the design and graphics for bulletins 1 and 2 and does not have the copyright on the texts and materials since they pertain 100% to the institution and are in all cases, the results of investigations of the entire GIPRI group.
--That Diego Martinez has not been a member of GIPRI since November 2000.
--That during the past two years Diego Martinez has used GIPRI materials for his "diverse publications" that to unsuspecting eyes appear to be his theoretic and field works (in which he did not participate!), when really, in their entirety, pertain to ideas or themes coordinated by GIPRI (1970-2002), produced from seminars and projects instigated by its director.  Any person is welcome to participate in GIPRI in its various programs and activities, but the materials and works generated belong to the organization and not to the individuals who worked on them!
--That the Rupestreweb listserv and the Rupestreweb web page were only created to generate conflict with the GIPRI organization confusing colleagues with name of the magazine-bulletin published by GIPRI; confusion that yet today continues to be generated.  During more than two years, the group and its director have received all kinds of calumminations and insults on the web and in private mail, generating countless conflicts, known by many of the members of the scientific community.
--That it is completely unjust that the work of a group and all its years of dedication to a serious scientific endeavor be used in a dishonest manner by an individual that does not currently pertain to that organization, and that those dishonest procedures actually generate various problems and difficulties in the management of its finances.
--That the magazine-bulletin Rupestre: Rock Art in Colombia and its projected publications that colleagues recognize nationally and internationally are seen to be seriously affected if colleagues decide to solicite the publication for free that he is promoting.
--That the directors of GIPRI are presently asking for legal counsel to affect the pertinent demands and additionally ask for the help of the owner of Yahoo to sanction or close the rupestreweb listserv, inorder to convert thirty (30) years of investigative work material into a private asset of the group.
--That in addition, there have been various consultations with the publishers (District University, Pedagogic University, Mid-America Geographic Foundation), and authors (C.N. Dubelaar, H. Marriner, J. Trujillo, C. Rodriguez, J. Clottes, F. Urbina, J. Arango) about materiales in the magazine in order to know their thoughts regarding the private use of their studies and the irregular handling that Diego Martinez and rupestreweb are internationally promoting.  The publication rights in the RUPESTRE magazine have been given to GIPRI in order to publish and in no case does there exist the option to be used except with organization approval.  Actually, legal opinions regarding all legal aspects are being sought to determine whether they should be treated on an individual or global basis.
