Hello Dr. Turpin,
My name is Layne Miller. I am the editor of Vestiges, the monthly newsletter
for the Utah Rock Art Research Association. I am inquiring to see if you or
someone else could write up a report (two pages or so) on your Lewis Canyon
project. It sounds very interesting and I'm sure URARA members would be
interested in reading about it.
Thanks for your consideration.

Subject: Lewis Canyon
Another short report from the Lewis Canyon volunteers - despite record cold
temperatures, a hardy crew of volunteers uncovered another 60 glyphs at
this endless expanse of rock art. New motifs include a set of four human
foot prints in a line, as though walking under the dirt, and a tiny child's
foot print. The newly build sun shelter took on another role when wrapped
in tarps and heated with portable stoves. We moved some of the sediment
and a great deal of prickly pear up to bolster the rock wall sediment trap
- the prickly pear should soon form an impenetrable fence along the road as
well. We had planned to photograph and digitize the glyphs exposed during
the last three clean-up weekends but the great Boreal forces were against
us. The next field trip is scheduled for April 19 when - knowing Texas
weather - we will be baking instead of freezing. However, it is imperative
that we begin documenting the exposed glyphs since the number grows and the
task becomes larger.
