IFRAO-2009: Retrospect
and Prospect
IFRAO Meeting-cum-Workshop
Rationale
Dear IFRAO Friends
It will be a pleasure to see you in the Global Rock Art Conference, Serra da Capivara, Brazil 2009. IFRAO is running in its 21st year and soon we will be going to celebrate its Silver Jubilee in 2014, Australia, where it was borne in 1988. The present meeting in the Global Rock Art Conference has provided a nice opportunity to introspect its goals accomplished and to identify the tasks and challenges to be met in future. Let us give a thought to build up the personality of the budding Rock Art Discipline as the IFRAO dream.
This is the proper time to have a stock of Rock Art Discipline in different Continents and Countries their in. We have to design our tasks to propagate scientific rock art study in the young generation, and its role in conservation and preservation of the rock art heritage of the world. Let us discuss a kind of 5-year plan: what steps can we take collectively to improve our operation and effectiveness? In 2014 we should review our progress and make the necessary adjustments. We have visualized certain points:
1. To develop capsule programmes (print and e-books, audio-visuals, on an introduction to rock of, a-different Continents, and b-Countries there in.
2. Similarly a lively introduction to Rock Art Heritage Sites in different Continents and all together of the world.
3. Identify the potential rock art sites to be recommended for World heritage sites to the respective Governments of the Countries to the UNESCO, and gather some crucial information which will help in preparing a proper document in this regard in future.
4. To encourage academic exchange programme among the IFRAO members.
5. To streamline our collective response to specific threats to sites
6. Any other suggestions.
