Puerto Rico is in need of your help and intervention in order to stop the approval of Permit Law Projects, No. 880 in the Puerto Rico Senate, and No. 1649 in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives. These projects intend to destroy our natural resources, our history as well as our heritage.
Those
Permit Law Projects claim to re-structure and expedite construction
permits on the island. However, upon close inspection of the fine
print, these proposed amendments are based on destroying the legal
protection of the environmental and archaeological resources of Puerto
Rico. Contrary to what people in favor of the proposed amendments
(mainly contractors and builders), would have the public as well as the
Senators and Representatives on the island believe, the environmental
and archaeological community is vehemently opposed to this misguided
proposition of law.
We want to be clear that we are in favor of progress, and agree that the actual permit process in Puerto Rico is not adequate, but not at the expense of the preservation of our natural resources, the preservation of our heritage, and the continued discovery our our history through guidelines that are followed world-wide when excavating archaeological sites.
We rely on your righteousness and your willingness to preserve Puerto Rico's natural, archaeological and historical resources from being destroyed and lost forever.
