Dear Colleagues,

The Museum de Prehistoria e Arte do Valle do Tejo has the pleasure of inviting you to take part in our project of the Museum of Museums of Rock Art. This project consists in organizing a graphic and photographic database on world Rock Art displaying images from every country where it is the subject of scientific research. Our main goals are supporting and publicizing several research works all over the world, as well as promoting their results while establishing a research centre that can used as source of information for students in Mação. At a first stage material and information from several countries will be organized and displayed. As partnerships grow stronger, different kinds of educational events will be proposed.

In order to make this project work your help is fundamental. In order to participate, we would appreciate if you could send us images and information as detailed below, as well as a written authorization for non commercial use of the images and information provided. It is important to notice that the Museum is a non-for-the profit organization and all the material you should provide will be used only for NON-COMMERCIAL display in the museum facilities, on the streets of Mação and for educational uses since students will have access to viewing the images in classes.

Files sent to the museum should include 5 high-resolution photographs (300 dpi, 30 x 25 cm, to be printed in 70 x 50 com posters) and 3 sketches of the same panels also in high resolutions (300 dpi, 15 x20 cm). Along with the images, you should send short explanatory texts with information n the art and region where it comes from.

In order to facilitate communication with all parts involved in this project, we have created an internet mailing list (HTTP://tech.grupos.yahoo.COM/grupo/Museurockart), so that we can have instant and continuous contact and clear out any doubt about the project.

Faculty and students of both the Master Degree course in Prehistory and Rock and the PhD course in Quaternary – Materials and Methods DO appreciate your help and regard it as fundamental, not only for the sake of our institution as a research center for Rock Art, but also as a priceless contribution for the formation of the students themselves.

Sincerely,
