Mar’a Claudia fue secuestrada en agosto de 1976 en Buenos Aires

junto con su esposo Marcelo Ariel, el hijo de Juan Gelman. Mar’a

Claudia ten’a entonces 19 a–os y estaba embarazada de ocho meses

y medio, cuando militares uruguayos la trasladaron ilegalmente

a Montevideo, mientras que Marcelo Ariel fue asesinado. En

noviembre de 1976 naci— su hija en Montevideo. DespuZ<caron>s asesinaron

fr’amente a Mar’a Claudia. Su hija fue entregada a una pareja

estZ<caron>ril de la polic’a montevideana y reciZ<caron>n en 2000 - 23 a–os m‡s

tarde - fue encontrada con el apoyo de firmas y cartas solidarias

desde todo el mundo. En esa ocasi—n, el presidente uruguayo, que

dispone de las informaciones necesarias, prometi— esclarecer los

hechos.



In October 1976 Mar’a Claudia, 19 years of age and eight and a

half months pregnant, was carried off to Montevideo, Uruguay by

members of the Uruguayan military, while Marcelo Ariel was

murdered. She gave birth to their daughter that November in

Montevideo. Afterwards Mar’a Claudia was murdered in cold blood.

The daughter was given to an infertile couple from the Montevideo

police and only in 2000 - 23 years later - was she found, with

the help of a worldwide letter writing and petition campaign.

Thereupon the president of Uruguay promised to expedite

the release of all available information on the case.
