Retention and strengthening clubs to be main focus in 2002-03 year
Rotary's Global Quest for membership will continue throughout 2002-03 with some modifications. While the overall association goal remains an annual net gain of five members per club, clubs and districts are asked to establish their own individual goals. With the recent influx of new members and poor retention statistics in various regions, clubs are encouraged to focus on retaining members through orientation, education, mentoring, and immediate involvement of members.
Based on the percentage of net membership increases, the Global Quest will recognize 50 winning districts and 100 winning clubs, each of which will receive a monetary award to be used for a community or international service project. One district and its two winning clubs will be the worldwide winners; the governor, the two club presidents, and their spouses will be invited to attend the 2003 RI Convention in Brisbane, Australia, where they will receive recognition on stage and reimbursement for expenses other than travel. The time frame for the Global Quest is 1 July 2002 — 1 May 2003.
Clubs and districts are also encouraged to participate in the RI Membership Development and Extension Award program through which each governor may identify a winning club in the following categories:
-highest percentage growth rate,
-induction of the most new members,
-highest retention rate, and
-sponsorship of a new Rotary club.
Districts that achieve their established membership goal will also be recognized. The time frame for this program is 1 July 2002 — 15 May 2003.
A new program has been developed specifically to encourage clubs to improve their retention rates. Spanning the Rotary years 2002-04, the Retention Recognition program will recognize five districts and one club within each winning district for their success in retaining members between 1 July 2002 and 4 April 2004. The winning clubs and districts will receive a monetary award to be used toward the completion of a service project.
