Membership and Extension Month
Clubs urged to maintain momentum
Last year, Rotary clubs and districts acted decisively to build membership. Maintaining that momentum will require a devoted effort to membership development in 2002-03 (see "Retention and strengthening clubs to be main focus in 2002-03 year," below). August, which is Membership and Extension Month, is a good time for clubs and districts to set their long-term and short-term goals and determine ways to meet specific challenges.
In addition to proposing new members and retaining existing ones, membership development entails the extension of Rotary through the formation of new clubs. To offer more membership options in communities with few or no clubs, some clubs and districts are sponsoring clubs that accommodate the lifestyles and commitments of today's potential Rotarians (see "The club that plays together," page 8).
