Recien estoy llegando ayer, 17 de octubre, de la Asamblea General de la UIAA, realizada en Banff, CANADA, del 12 al 14 de octubre (con el evento fundamental el día 14). Los resultados más significativos se resumen en las informaciones aparecidas en las páginas web de UIAA y de UIAA Climbing. Estas son las siguientes:

At the General Assembly held in Banff, Canada on October 14th 2006 the
General Assembly decided that the UIAA would no longer support and govern International Climbing Competitions. The GA decided to support the creation of an International Federation to govern Competition Climbing, in accordance with the Olympic Games requirements.
Furthermore the General Assembly voted to pursue a Federal Multi-Branches Model for the future structure of the UIAA.
The General Assembly elected Mike Mortimer from Canada as the new UIAA President and Jordi Colomer (Spain, and President of UIAA Ski Mountaineering ISMC) as UIAA Vice President. Treasurer Jürg Schweizer will finish his term. Peter Farkas from Hungary was elected as a new Board member.
In addition, six new Council members were elected: Michael Pupeza (Romania), Mark Vallance (UK), Jose Moreano (Ecuador), Mark Richey (USA), Frits Vrijlandt (Netherlands) and Juri Skurlatov (Russia).
On behalf of the General Assembly Mike Mortimer thanked Pierre Humblet, who had acted as President for the last year, for his significant contribution towards the structural reform of the UIAA during the last year.

UIAA Climbing (www.uiaaclimbing.com):
International Council for Competition Climbing to become independent International Federation
The General Assembly of the UIAA took place on October 14th with over 60 members present or represented, with the important mandate to vote on the
future of the UIAA.
We are pleased to announce that the GA voted to create an Independent Federation to govern and administer Competition Climbing, with 62 votes supporting this proposal (5 against, 6 abstensions)!. The existing International Council for Competition Climbing, with its 66 member countries and rich competition calendar, will become fully independent as an International Federation.
Work now begins on our future.

En esta Asamblea, Venezuela votó a favor de la decisión de independizar a la Escalada de la UIAA.
En el mes de diciembre, en ocasión de la Asamblea General de la FEVME, tomaremos las decisiones en cuanto a la reforma de nuestro Estatuto, la cual está orientada entre otros aspectos, a mejorar la eficiencia administrativa y técnica de la federación, y a la conversión en una organización que dirigirá solamente los destinos de la Escalada de Competencia en Venezuela (... la Federación Venezolana de Escalada Deportiva -FEVED-).
Con ello, nos plegaremos totalmente a la nueva Federación Internacional de Escalada, la cual se constituirá en el mes próximo, con el concurso inmediato de Venezuela y Ecuador. Cuando esta nueva organización sea reconocida por el COI, Venezuela se desafiliará de la UIAA y solo quedaré afiliada a la Escalada (esto podrá ser realizado en un plazo no mayor a seis meses, pues ya se han adelantado conversaciones con el COI).
