A child clings to their parent until they realize they have learned everything they have to learn, then they set off on their own. Think about this today. A mother feeds a child from her breast until it is no longer good for her, or for the child, to continue. Then she begins to wean the child, introducing a different kind of food. At first the child feels like its been abandoned, as if it has done something wrong and is being punished. It is impossible for them to know what is in their own best interest. I am going to begin pushing you away from me now, for it is not in your best interest that we continue the way we have been. Let me wean you from my breast, and you also will begin eating a new kind of bread.
