Poker is the name given to a number of card games
where players wager on the strength of the cards they hold. Poker is
a game that involves a communal "pot" consisting of the
players' wagers which is awarded to the poker player who either holds
the highest ranking hand or makes a wager which goes unmatched by his
or her opponents.
At PokerStars, Pokerstar Seven
Card Stud and Omaha poker games are played in both "high-only"
and "high-low split" form. In these high-low games, the
best five-card poker hand for high wins half the pot, and the best
qualifying five-card hand for low wins the other half. Pokerstar

All poker games begin with some forced wager over
which poker players compete. In Seven Card Stud, there are two forced
wagers, an ante and a bring-in. In Texas Hold'em and Omaha, the
forced wagers are a small blind and a big blind. In any basic poker
game, players strategically wager using a number of actions available
to them. The actions are as follows:
CHECK - If there is
no wager on the current betting round, a player may check. The act
of checking passes the action to the next poker player immediately
clockwise from him or her. A check does not forfeit interest in the
pot, only the current right to bet. If all players check during a
round of betting, the round is considered complete.
BET - If there is no
wager on the current betting round, a player may bet. If a player
bets, the poker player immediately clockwise from him or her (and
any subsequent poker players) may fold, raise, or call.
FOLD - The act of
folding forfeits all interest in the pot. A player who folds is not
required or allowed to wager any further money for the current poker
game.
CALL - If there has
been a wager on the current round of poker play, a player may call.
The act of calling requires the player to match the current bet made
by his or her opponent(s).
RAISE - If there has been a wager on the current
betting round, a player may raise. The act of raising requires the
poker player to match the current bet, and make a greater one. All
subsequent players are required to call the raise or raise again
("re-raise") to maintain interest in the pot.
On each betting round, betting continues until the
person immediately counterclockwise the last bettor or raiser acts.
When this person acts, the next poker round begins, or the hand is
complete.
When the last bet or raise on the final betting round
is called, the "showdown" occurs. This is when it is
determined who wins the pot, as players show their hands one-by-one.
It may be the case that there is no showdown. This occurs when a
player bets or raises, and no active players choose to call the
player's bet (in other words, all players fold). In this case, the
player doing the betting or raising wins the full amount of the pot.
Basic Poker Play: Table Stakes and All-In
Basic poker play is typically played "table
stakes", meaning only the chips in play at the beginning of each
hand may be used throughout the hand. The table stakes rule has an
application called the "All-In" rule, which states that a
player cannot be forced to forfeit a poker hand because the player
does not have enough chips to call a bet. A player who does not have
enough chips to call a bet is declared All-In. The player is eligible
for the portion of the pot to the point of his final wager. All
further action involving other players takes place in a "side
pot", which is ineligible to the All-In player.

Poker play starts with the dealer handing out the cards clockwise from his or her left. As soon as the cards are dealt, the players are left with four options. You may check the bet (bet nothing but still remain in the game), call the previous bet (bet the same amount as the previous bet), raise the previous bet (increase the amount of the previous bet), or fold (giving up a chance to win the pot by not matching a bet). You can only check when no other players have made any bets and it`s your turn in that round.
Tips for Poker Playing
1. Limit play to only the best starting hands. If you are dealt a weak hand, do not wait; fold quickly. One of the biggest and mot common mistakes made by novice poker players is to play most of the hands they are deal. The top expert poker players, amazingly enough, only play about 20-30% of their starting hands.
2. Play selectively and aggressively. Expert players understand when to avoid committing chips to a hand. They also understand when it is in their best interest to play aggressively in order to get more money in the pot. Aggressive poker players can win two ways: by forcing others out of the hand through aggressive betting and good bluffing, or by holding the best cards. Passive poker players, on the other hand, win only when they are holding the best cards at the showdown.
3. Study the other competitors. In online poker, body language doesn`t exist, but when playing face-to-face poker, study the actions of the other players and you`ll earn an advantage. Even when playing online, some poker rooms allow you to watch a table before actually joining in the game; even this allows you to learn something about the playing style and skills of those at the table. Observe how each player bets, the amount they bet, times at which they hesitate and note the position in which they are better. This can give you a lot of clues to help you once you join the table.
4. Position is power; use it. Being seated at the table in a position that allows you to act after other opponents is extremely valuable because you can gather a great deal of information about other player`s hands while letting almost no information about your cards become known to other players. When you have a choice, position yourself so that you act last and avoid placing yourself where you must act first. Frequently, in small games where there are only one or two other players, you can take the pot with just one bet if the other players have checked to you. So, use the power of position to your advantage.
5. Gear down when losing. When the cards just seem to be falling against you, play fewer hands, avoid playing marginal hands, make the other players find it difficult to draw any information from your actions, and never play weak hands when placed in a starting position.

Insurance - Blackjack - To place a side bet that will result in the player being even if the dealer has Blackjack.
Jackpot - Slots - A large prize given for winning on a certain special game or combination of symbols.
Loose - Slots - A loose machine is one that is paying out at a higher percentage then other machines.
Pay Line - Slots - A line of symbols on which the winning symbols must line up to win.
Point - Craps - The starting number for the craps game that they player must roll again before that player sevens-out.
Progressive - Slots - A jackpot that has money added to it the more that people play on the selected machines.
Session - General - Any time that is spent playing the games at the casinos.

¿Qué serie de sucesos y decisiones provocaron esta crisis? ¿Queremos vivir así?
A mi hijo Fernando
Han pasado ya más de tres meses de que esta nueva causa que da razón a mi vida comenzó. Han sido días de duelo, pero también de aprendizaje, de reflexión, de enfrentarme con información y conceptos, que antes de que me arrebataran a mi hijo me eran poco conocidos.
"Estado fallido", confieso que el concepto me eriza la piel. Una situación donde la autoridad se disuelve y los preceptos básicos de la vida en sociedad se degradan a tal punto que entre nosotros reina el miedo y no la ley. Donde miras a la autoridad con desconfianza. Donde mentir, robar y hasta matar, son acciones que pocas veces tendrán un castigo acorde con la falta.
Cientos de delincuentes han hecho del crimen una empresa y de la vida una moneda de cambio. Imponen el terror y la fuerza, relevan al estado en sus funciones más elementales, como son cobrar impuestos y proteger nuestra integridad física y patrimonial. Nos tienen secuestrados a la mayoría de los mexicanos.
No podría decir con precisión cual es la magnitud del problema. Podría contentarme con mirar toda la realidad desde la perspectiva de la tragedia de mi familia y decir que todo ha fracasado. Pero no. Me resisto a pensar que México ha fallado. Me niego a darme por vencido. Este no es el México en el que crecí y no es el que quiero dejarle a los hijos que por fortuna aún tengo conmigo.
¿Cómo llegamos hasta aquí? ¿Qué serie de sucesos y decisiones provocaron esta crisis? ¿Queremos vivir así? Son infinitas las preguntas que podríamos hacernos y casi todas nos llevan a la misma conclusión: nosotros somos la causa, sí, pero somos también el remedio.
Una conclusión que por una parte es difícil de aceptar, porque es muy cómodo culpar a las autoridades, a los políticos o al vecino. Implica un ejercicio de consciencia crítica, revisar nuestra propia conducta y reconocer que hemos sido parte del problema, pero que podemos ser parte de la solución.
Personalmente pienso que no se trata de un asunto de predisposición cultural de los mexicanos, o que la corrupción y la impunidad estén en nuestra génesis. No es que seamos así por naturaleza.
El mismo mexicano que aquí en nuestro territorio se pasa los altos, da "mordida" y viola sistemáticamente la ley, se comporta de manera muy diferente cuando está en países donde la posibilidad de "salirse con la suya" es, no sólo menor sino escasa.
Su origen, su cultura, sus creencias, su naturaleza, no cambian. Sin embargo su conducta se modifica sensiblemente y obedece la ley. No es magia, es el resultado de coexistir en un Estado que cumple su función de estabilidad social.
Está en nosotros ser mejores.
Vivir en un sistema sin impunidad, donde la mayoría de los delitos sean castigados, donde las leyes y la justicia sean para todos, no es un anhelo imposible, es el proyecto clave que la sociedad mexicana necesita formularse y realizar para preservar su existencia. Así de simple y así de complejo. Estamos ante el desafío más grande del México moderno y no podemos caer en falsas disyuntivas. Tú y yo sabemos que no es una opción dejarle el país a los delincuentes. Somos más fuertes y grandes que los males que nos aquejan.
Si miramos el problema con ojo crítico, pero a la vez con sensatez y optimismo, claramente vemos un panorama complejo. Sin embargo, obrando en justicia debemos reconocer que hombres y mujeres de todos los partidos, gobiernos y sectores de la sociedad están genuinamente comprometidos con la causa de recuperar México.
A partir de hoy le restan 4 años al presente sexenio. Dentro de los próximos 100 días nos encontraremos en pleno proceso electoral. Es la hora de los ciudadanos.
Es una oportunidad para mantener nuestra demanda en la agenda, para aportar soluciones y propuestas con mayores posibilidades de éxito.
En SOS entendemos el momento y apoyamos el clamor de la sociedad. Usaremos nuestro poder ciudadano para construir una realidad con seguridad y justicia para todos.
Daremos apoyo y magnificaremos la voz de ciudadanos y organizaciones sociales especializadas en el tema de la seguridad, para que nos ayuden a comprender el problema, evaluar los resultados y tomar una decisión informada.
Seremos un foro abierto para todos los que quieran sumarse a esta causa y que estén dispuestos a compartir sus experiencias, aportar su esfuerzo y colaborar en la solución del problema.
