1. May 2003 Fatal Event Roundup
After having no fatal airline events in the month of April, May saw two fatal events, both involving Ukrainian aircraft. On 8 May 2003, an Ilyushin 76 cargo aircraft was reportedly transporting several hundred passengers when the rear cargo door opened in flight. Possibly over 100 passengers were ejected from the aircraft and killed. On 26 May 2003, a Yak 42 carrying Spanish peacekeeping forces crashed while in route from Afghanistan.
