  Master course

    


    Master of Science programme NVAO accredited

The IHS Master course on Urban Development and Management is fully
accredited as an academic master course by the Dutch Government
accreditation committee NVAO. The stringent quality criteria applied by
the Dutch Government are based on European standards for higher
education, which makes our Master programme a valuable and recognized
international degree. The intensive one year programme leads to a Master
of Science degree and is open for bachelor students and professionals.
The programme is offered in close collaboration with Erasmus University
Rotterdam, Lund University Sweden and Lincoln Institute of Land Policy,
USA. At the moment it is still possible to enrol for the coming academic

starting in October 2007.

  Executive Courses

We are pleased to announce our second series of executive courses for
managers and decision makers. These 5-10 day executive courses may
include field trips to European cities. The following courses are
offered this year:


    Law and Land Policy in an Urbanizing World

/In co-operation with our partners: The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy
(LILP),USA and the Global Land Tool Network of UN-HABITAT./

This course analyses the legal dimensions of urbanization and develops
skills that will enable legal professionals and urban specialists to
analyse, propose and implement legal actions within the framework of
urban development and land policies.

    Leading Cities; creating and implementing strategies that work

/In co-operation with our partner: PricewaterhouseCoopers./

Leadership is vital for cities to play a key role in the economic
development and the lives of people. This course aims to provide the
know-how, skills and inspiration to develop creative strategies that
prepare your city for the future as well as concrete ideas on how to
make the strategies work in terms of politics, participation and
partnerships.

    Leveraging Public-Private Opportunities for City Regeneration

/In co-operation with our partner: PricewaterhouseCoopers./

Public-private Partnerships bring new sources of finance, innovation,
efficiency and business opportunities. This course will offer a concrete
business plan for public-private partnerships. It takes you to major
European cities, to experience the practice of innovative partnerships.

Field visits: Lille, France, Berlin, Germany,The Netherlands_


    Organising for a Competitive Local Economy: institutional strategies
    and approaches

A fundamental component of the development of cities
/Speakers are drawn from IHS, Erasmus University, Economic Development
Board Rotterdam, Milano Metropolis and European Association of Regional
Development Agencies./
You will be inspired to find creative solutions for organizing local
economic development in your own city or region. The course will combine
academic insights with the practical experiences of amongst others two
European Cities: Rotterdam (The Netherlands) and Milan (Italy).

IHS organizes a public lecture series on the theme of the Millennium
Development Goals. The first lectures have been well received by our
audience. The following lectures are coming up soon:

  Refresher Courses

    

IHS is pleased to announce that, in collaboration with partners, the
following Refresher Courses financed by NUFFIC will be executed in 2007:

    * *Strategies for sustainable cities in Asia * This course will take
      place from 21 May – 1 June 2007 in Beijing, China and will be
      available for NFP alumni with a Chinese, Vietnamese, Mongolian or
      Thai nationality. IHS partners are ACCA21 and NANC. Selection
      criteria and application form for submission are now available

    * *Innovative Financing Mechanisms for Low Income Housing for
      Countries in the SADC Region * The course is planned for the 3rd
      quarter of 2007.

  Publications

    


    IHS Thesis series, volume 1

In this first number of the IHS Thesis series we present a selection of
the thesis summaries considered to be of the highest quality from the
two already implemented batches of the new IHS / EUR Masters programme:
2004-5 (UMD1) and in the year 2005-6 (UMD2). In this selection all
specialisations of the masters programme are represented. At the back of
this publication a CD-Rom is enclosed containing the full, unedited
versions of the selected theses. Later this year the publication will be
available in digital format on our website.
